Lin brings an established private equity and M&A practice to the firm, strengthening ties to Greater China and global corporate markets
Hong Kong (January 13, 2025) – Morrison Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce the arrival of Xiaoxi Lin, who joins the firm as a partner in the Corporate Group based in Hong Kong. Lin brings over 15 years’ experience to Morrison Foerster, with a private equity and M&A practice with established client relationships in the Greater China, Asia, and U.S. markets.
Lin joins Morrison Foerster from a major London-headquartered international law firm, where he was a partner in its private equity and U.S. public M&A practices. He previously practiced with two major U.S.-headquartered international firms, with experience based in Hong Kong, New York, and Beijing.
Lin brings a broad practice to Morrison Foerster, advising private equity and investment fund clients on strategic transactions, including control and leveraged buyouts, growth capital investments, and public takeovers. He is also an experienced adviser on Asia and U.S. public transactions, including take private, SPAC IPO, de-SPAC, and PIPE transactions. Lin’s practice has also seen him work closely on numerous other mandates relating to capital markets, credit and special situations, restructuring/bankruptcy, CFIUS, fund formation, and litigation. He has a particular focus on technology, data centers and digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and life sciences sector clients.
“Xiaoxi represents a terrific addition to Morrison Foerster. He brings deep experience across a range of corporate transactions, a strong business sense, and cross-cultural dealmaking skills that are rare in the market and that will enhance the firm’s private equity and M&A offering in Asia and globally,” said Marcia Ellis, global co-chair of Morrison Foerster’s Private Equity Group.
“Xiaoxi’s arrival bolsters our private equity and M&A experience across Greater China and Asia. We recognize his reputation for being a collaborative and highly skilled transactional lawyer, and we are looking forward to integrating him into Morrison Foerster’s global network and establishing connections with colleagues and clients across the region,” said Timothy Blakely, Hong Kong’s office managing partner at Morrison Foerster.
“I am excited to join Morrison Foerster’s globally renowned Corporate Group and continue to grow my practice on Morrison Foerster’s global platform. The firm has an excellent reputation for private equity and M&A work across Asia and worldwide, and I am looking forward to integrating with colleagues globally and introducing clients across Greater China and Asia to Morrison Foerster’s market-leading team,” said Lin.
Lin’s addition continues Morrison Foerster’s strategic growth in Asia and follows the recent additions of Scott Jalowayski in Singapore, and Greg Salathé and Stephen DeCosse, both based in Japan, and the promotion of Derik Rao to partnership in Shanghai.
Lin joins Morrison Foerster with a B.Sc. from the University of Hong Kong in actuarial science and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He speaks Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese. Lin is admitted to practice in New York.
