In line with the Singapore Government’s efforts to make the Republic more environmentally conscious and a hub for sustainable development solutions, WongPartnership has launched an Environmental & Green Economy Practice. The firm foresees the development of economic activities generating from green projects and sustainable developments, and has labeled the new practice – which will be jointly headed by partners Low Kah Keong and Rosabel Ng – as a green “one-stop shop”. The practice comprises partners and lawyers with regulatory, advisory and transactional experience across a wide spectrum of green areas including carbon derivatives and other clean emissions trading, environmental regulation and compliance, green project financing, and M&A involving clean/renewable energy companies.

The new practice will also support WongPartnership’s own corporate social responsibility programme in looking at ways to reduce the firm’s carbon footprint, aided by the firm’s involvement in a pilot carbon management scheme led by Singapore Economic Development Board. Through the scheme, the firm has been presented with the opportunity to work with The Carbon Neutral Company, a world leading provider of carbon management solutions that help businesses reduce their carbon emissions. According to managing partner Dilhan Pillay Sandrasegara, “We are honoured to be the first professional services firm and law firm to participate in this pilot scheme with five other leading organisations to reduce our business carbon footprint and develop more effective carbon management solutions.” The firm already started the move towards a paperless environment in 2005, and so far a number of practice groups and support teams have gone entirely paperless.
