Global law firm White & Case LLP is launching an office in Cairo, expanding its practice in the Mena region. The new office is expected to be up-and-running by October.“The launch of our office in Cairo will help us meet the increasing demands of our Egyptian clients and better support the needs of our international clients investing there,” said White & Case Chairman Hugh Verrier. White & Case has been advising clients in Egypt, mainly corporate and investment banking clients, for more than 15 years. The hope is that the office will enable the firm to broaden its legal practice and better support clients on high end work including project finance, private equity, corporate/M&A and debt and equity capital markets. White & Case will operate in Egypt in association with new Egyptian law firm MHR & Partners, the partners of which will be Tarek Mohanna, Said Hanafi, Waleed El Daly and Sherief Rashed. Hanafi joins from Orascom Development Holdings, where he was general counsel, and El Daly from Zaki Hashem & Partners, where he was a partner. Mohanna and Hanafi will relocate to Cairo from White & Case offices in London and Abu Dhabi respectively. The new office will be led by White & Case partner Philip Stopford, who will divide his time between London and Cairo. “With the introduction of a number of economic initiatives and reforms, Egypt is increasingly attractive for foreign investment,” said Stopford, who continued “We’re excited to be making this move, which will also enable us to serve our Egyptian clients – who have extensive operations in EMEA and the Americas – more effectively. The calibre and experience of our Egyptian lawyers will allow us to deliver both local knowledge and access to our global network.” Photo source: http://www.bigfoto.com/ |
