Hong Kong
Trial-orientated US firm Kobre & Kim LLP – which has offices in New York, Washington DC, Miami, and London – has opened an office in Hong Kong this month. The firm’s office is led by William F. McGovern, who throughout his career has been engaged as a US prosecutor, Executive Director at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, and Branch Chief in the Enforcement Division of the US Securities & Exchange Commission. McGovern, who will be supported by the firm’s co-founder Steven G. Kobre (a former federal prosecutor at the US Department of Justice), is already leading a team of four, with additional appointments anticipated in 2011.
The firm’s practice is centered around litigation, arbitration and investigations, with a focus on international government investigations, large commercial disputes (typically in financial and insolvency contexts), and international asset recovery, including offshore trust litigation. Prior to the establishment of the Hong Kong office, the firm had already worked on a number of cases throughout Asia, including representation of several large Asian companies in US-based antitrust class and government enforcement actions; representation of clients in Japan, Singapore, Korea, and Hong Kong who were under investigation by US authorities; and international commercial disputes between Asian clients and financial institutions in the UK. |
