RPC’s joint law venture (JLV) with law firm Premier Law went live on May 1, doubling the firm’s size in Singapore and adding significant additional capability for clients. The combination – which will be known as RPC Premier Law – will see the two firms offering a comprehensive range of services across:• Banking and financial dispute resolution
• International arbitration and dispute resolution
• Corporate, mergers and acquisitions and finance
• Insurance and reinsurance
• Marine and international trade
• Corporate insurance
• Restructuring and insolvency

RPC originally opened in Singapore in February 2012, and has handled dispute resolution and coverage work under UK law on behalf of international insurers and reinsurers across Asia Pacific.

Premier Law has been operating in Singapore since December 2007. The team supports blue chip organisations doing business in Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China on both contentious and non-contentious matters.

This JLV follows the merger of Singaporean firm Stamford Law and US law firm Morgan Lewis ; and Rodyk & Davidson’s tie up with Gadens of Australia and Dentons of America, which has been the world’s largest law firm since joining forces with Chinese firm Dacheng in 2015 . This, along with King & Wood Malleson’s entry into Singapore last May show that more and more foreign law firms are being enticed by the opportunities in the Southeast Asian financial hub.

RPC Managing Partner Jonathan Watmough said: “Through RPC Premier Law we are now well positioned to offer the full suite of dispute resolution, transactional and insurance services across three of the leading financial centres in the world – London, Singapore and Hong Kong.

“We’ve been working closely with Siraj, Tandip and the team at Premier Law for quite some time, so I’m delighted that we’re now finally open for business.”

Tandip Singh, who leads the corporate and finance team, said: “The synergies between RPC and Premier Law were very strong, making the JLV a compelling proposition. I’m looking forward to building on those as we look to develop a market-leading corporate and transactional practice across Asia Pacific.”

Siraj Omar, who heads Premier Law’s disputes practice, said: “RPC’s banking, financial and broader dispute resolution team is of the highest quality, meaning we’re now able to offer our clients far greater depth and choice when it comes to handling their disputes*.”

RPC Premier Law will move into their new office in Marina Bay Financial Centre on Monday 16 May.

*Local Singapore litigation will be handled by Premier Law, outside of the JLV
