Beefing up its global investment management team in Tokyo, Bingham McCutchen snared seven lawyers from White & Case, to head up its Japanese office, including noted partners Christopher Wells and Tomoko Fuminaga. Wells and Fuminaga formerly helmed the investment funds and regulatory department at White & Case, with the former specialising in the establishment, operation, registration and licensing of funds and the latter advising in structured investment funds and advising banking, securities and asset management companies.

Answering the call to meet increased demand by institutional investors in Japan, particularly under the new Japanese administration, the move for the septet has been timely and according to Roger Joseph, head of Bingham’s Investment Management Group, their arrival “solidifies [their] capabilities to assist …clients with sophisticated legal needs that span borders.”
