In a bid to fortify its presence in Asia, and strengthen cross-border business in the region, European-based law firm, Taylor Wessing has formed an association with Korea’s DR & AJU International Law Group. Taylor Wessing is an Anglo-German firm and has about 1,000 lawyers in 23 offices throughout Europe and Asia. DR & AJU has about 120 Korean practitioners and was established five years ago in a merger between Dae Ryook International Law FIrm and AJU Law Group.

After South Korea opened its doors to foreign law firms in 2012, a host of US and UK firms launched offices in Seoul in association with local firms on the ground. Some of these included Bird & Bird, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, DLA Piper and Baker & McKenzie amongst others. International firms like Taylor Wessing are leveraging opportunities for business from a slew of potential clients on the ground, particularly in the technology and knowledge-based sectors.

Tim Eyles, Managing Partner of Taylor Wessing commented “Asia as a whole is one of the world’s most dynamic regions and Korea is an increasingly important jurisdiction with a mature economy that is only going to grow.”

Sonny Sung-Hoon Im, Partner at DR& AJU stated “Our joint venture is a sign of confidence in ASEAN, a region we consider to be increasingly important.”
