Uria Menendez, an independent Iberian law firm highly rated for its cross border M&A practice, has initiated a secondment training programme for PRC lawyers looking to broaden their horizons and work at its Madrid, Brussels and lastly one of its Latin American offices for a period of six months. The programme will provide an introduction to international business law and firm management with a focus on the legal issues pertinent to Chinese investors. According to Jose Martin Perrotto, managing partner of Uria Menedez’s Beijing office, “The Latin American component of the programme is particularly attractive to Chinese companies, given the current trend of Chinese outbound investment and the relatively limited knowledge of Chinese firms regarding the local legal market,”

Up to 10 Chinese lawyers can take part, the criteria being that the candidates speak fluent English and can demonstrate some experience working in the M&A sector particularly in connection with international deals. On the firm management side, a certain level of seniority is welcome given that topics such as the partnership track, business development issues and conflict of interest management will all be covered.
