In describing Chongqing as the “beachhead for the development of Western China,” Clyde & Co’s corporate partner Michael Cripps was commenting on the location of the latest joint law venture (JLV) between the international firm and boutique practice, West Link Partnership. Boosting its network, the new alliance cements Clyde & Co’s fourth offering in China, after setting up offices in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai.

The JLV is noteworthy because Clyde & Co is one of the first international firms to receive approval from the PRC Ministry of Justice to open an office in Western China.

The new offering will assist international clients with Chinese interests and act as a hub for foreign direct investment, advisory and employment work. In addition, it will assist Chinese clients in the fields of outbound investment and dispute resolution.

Partner and Asia-Pacific Board member, Ik Wei Chong stated that the firm had a “long history of involvement with what are sometimes seen from afar as frontier markets.” Cripps remarked that he saw “a lot of potential, both from a regional perspective and from the point of view of connecting international markets and opportunities.”
