Clyde & Co and Clasis LLC have collaborated to form a joint law venture in Singapore, effective August 1st 2013. The joint venture comes on the back of the increasing liberalisation of the Singapore market, as the Lion City strengthens its reputation as a hub for international arbitration, private banking, alternative investment funds, shipping matters, life sciences and insurance and commodities, among others.

Clyde & Co’s Singapore based Managing Partner, Brian Nash commented that “from an internal perspective it will be very much business as normal” given that Clyde & Co and Clasis have in the past enjoyed a “preferred referral relationship and have worked together as co-counsel but from a client facing perspective,” the two firms were “pleased to be able to combine their strengths and offer a one-stop shop service under one umbrella entity.”

Steven Lim, Managing Director of Clasis LLC stated that “a greater percentage of work undertaken in Singapore had an international element,” as “Singapore legal practice had transformed significantly.” He additionally commented that the joint law venture would give them “a platform to meet the needs and challenges of the new paradigm.”

Clyde & Co will be in a position to assist clients with advice on permitted areas, with litigation being excluded. Clasis LLC will be able to cover litigation given that it is a local Singapore firm.
