Kennedys is readying itself to gain a foothold in the aviation and aerospace arena following ongoing merger discussions with premier aviation practice Gates and Partners, a UK based firm. Challenging the key players, namely Holman Fenwick & Willan, Clyde & Co, Norton Rose and Stephenson Harwood, the new merger aims to give clients a wider breadth of experience to call upon as well as a new option in a sector which has been monopolised for some time. It may also mean that these specialist firms will have to up the ante in this niche area, once the firm taps into what is considered a highly lucrative market.

Traditionally, Kennedys has fostered alliances incrementally. The new merger with Gates and Partners will most likely continue along the same lines. Established in 2003, Gates and Partners was founded by three legacy Beaumont and Son partners: Sean Gates, Daniel Soffin and Adosh Chatrath. The firm is made up of a formidable team of 54 lawyers including 25 partners and has offices in London, Paris, Dubai, Brussels and Singapore.
