Intrepidly making a footprint for itself in post-war Libya, Clyde & Co will be the first foreign law firm to open in Tripoli in 40 years. The launch will take place on 1st August 2012. The precedent- setting move comes a year after Gaddafi’s regime was overthrown. The law firm is responding to a call to service clients in the security, energy and construction fields. The new office will be helmed by the former GC of the Libyan Investment Authority and the team will be shored up by multilingual case-handlers on standby in London, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Despite a legacy of issues that are still plaguing the country, Libya is positioning itself for long term stability following its parliamentary election. This will most likely translate into a swell of new companies seeking to establish themselves in the oil-rich country.

Ben Knowles, partner at Clyde & Co said “as patterns of global trade have shifted, the firm has actively invested in our emerging markets network to meet the evolving needs of our clients. We believe the office has huge growth potential.”

Clyde & Co also opens an office in Australia later this month.
