A new independent firm founded by break-away international partners from Richards Butler (which later merged with Reed Smith) has established itself in Hong Kong. Howse Williams Bowers was born on New Year’s day this year and has rapidly blossomed into a fully-fledged team consisting of up to 60 partners, lawyers and staff. Touting its specialties in the shipping, dispute resolution, commercial and medico-legal fields, the breadth and depth of experience offered can be gleaned from the name of the firm alone, which is made up of founding partners Chris Howse, Chris Williams and Kevin Bowers.

With two former doctors on their medico-legal team they are hoping to become the go-to firm for medico-legal advice, given that this remains very much a niche area of practice, here in Hong Kong. In this sphere, they have advised hospitals and clinics and taken on cases involving negligence and employment issues. On the dispute resolution side, they also handle injunctions, public inquiries and judicial reviews.
