Henry Wang has joined Dechert LLP as managing partner of the newly opened Beijing office. Prior to returning to private practice, Wang was general counsel at the Chinese-US joint venture company Shanghai General Motors. While an outside lawyer for GM and during his tenure there, he orchestrated the legal structure for all of GM’s major investments in China and provided the legal support for GM’s China matters in general. In 2006, Wang was named one of the top 20 in-house counsel in the Asia Pacific by a leading legal journal in Hong Kong.

Drew & Napier LLC has welcomed Eric Chan as an associate director joining the banking and corporate department. Chan started his career at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). He spent several years as an in-house counsel for MAS where he was responsible for advising officials on legal issues relating to banking regulation. In this capacity, he helped to advise and formulate various regulatory policies, including the 2001 legislative amendments to the Banking Act. Chan also served as Regional Director for Compliance & Ethics at the American Express Bank Ltd where he was responsible for overseeing the compliance & ethics policies and programs of the bank in the Asia Pacific region.

Michael KS Chan has joined the Hong Kong office of K&L Gates as a partner in the firm’s corporate, M&A, and securities practice. He joins the firm from Jones Day. Chan advises clients on a variety of transactional and corporate matters, including venture capital and private equity investments, corporate restructurings, and finance. He has been involved in numerous fund raisings, joint ventures, acquisitions, and sales in the technology and media services sectors, among others.

Gavin Lewis has rejoined the Herbert Smith Hong Kong litigation team and contentious regulatory practice as a partner from UBS AG in Hong Kong. Lewis spent over two years as a managing director heading litigation and regulatory inquiries in Asia-Pacific at UBS AG, covering offices in over 13 countries. He specialises in litigation and regulatory work, with a particular focus on the financial services sector. Lewis is a regular speaker on compliance and regulatory issues at various conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. He first joined Herbert Smith in London in 1996 and has been based in Hong Kong since 1998.

Kennedys has announced the addition of Meiling Yip as a partner to the Hong Kong office. Yip joins the firm from Simmons & Simmons where she focused on insurance and commercial litigation. Yip is a well-regarded advisor in the insurance industry, particularly in handling complex personal injury matters.

Morrison & Foerster welcomed Stephen S Birkett to the firm as a partner in its corporate group in Hong Kong. Birkett’s expertise includes securities regulatory matters, and he joins the firm from the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong, where he served for three years as senior director of corporate finance. Before that, he was a partner in Johnson Stokes & Master (now Mayer Brown JSM), where he was head of corporate finance.

Eric Milne has joined Simmons & Simmons as a partner to head up their banking and finance practice in the Middle East. He will be based in Dubai. Milne specialises in international banking, international finance, project and asset finance, advising commercial and investment banks and corporate borrowers, with particular emphasis on M&A and leveraged financings. Over the last 10 years he has also been involved in a broad spectrum of financing transactions, including multi-jurisdictional leveraged buyouts, IPOs telecoms financings, infrastructure financings and debt restructurings. Previously, Milne established the Dubai office of international law firm Freshfields in 2005 and worked in their London banking team since 1996.
